Vilon

Vilon is a synthetic dipeptide (Lys-Glu) identified by Vladimir Khavinson's research group as the minimal bioactive sequence from thymic tissue extracts. It represents the synthetic analog of thymalin (a thymic polypeptide complex) and is the shortest peptide in the bioregulator family. In published studies, Vilon has been shown to stimulate proliferation of lymphoid cells, modulate T-cell differentiation, and enhance immune function in immunosuppressed animal models. In a notable gerontological study, elderly patients given Vilon plus Epithalon over several years showed reduced mortality compared to control groups — though this data comes from a single research center. The dipeptide's mechanism is proposed to involve epigenetic regulation of genes associated with immune cell differentiation and thymic function. Despite being only two amino acids, Khavinson's group reports tissue-specific effects distinct from the free amino acids, suggesting the peptide bond itself carries regulatory information.
